Yuh-Jung Youn was. awarded the best supporting actress for the first time as a Korean actress at the 93rd Academy Award sheldon April 25th.
She drew great attention from the public because she was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Awards and British Academy of Film and Television Arts for her film ‘Minari’, which was released earlier this year, and became the fourth Asian actress to be nominated for the American Academy Awards.
Along with her, actresses who were nominated for the 93rd Academy Awards for best supporting actress included ‘Maria Bakalova’, ‘Glenn Close’, ‘Amanda Seyfried’ and ‘Olivia Colman’.
Winning against the prominent candidates above, Yuh-Jung Youn was called the winner of the best supporting actress award at the 93rd Academy Award swhich was held at Union Station in Los Angeles, USA.
With the Oscar, Yuh-Jung Youn became the first Korean actress and the second Asian actress who wins the Oscar. Also, she caught the attention of the world with her straightforward and witty acceptance speech.
After the awards ceremony, Yuh-Jung Youn’s acceptance speech was selected as the best moment in the awards by CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times. In addition, some people suggested that Yuh-Jung Youn should be the host of the Academy Awards ceremony next year.
From director Joon-Ho Bong’s ‘Parasite’, which swept the Academy Awards last year, to actress Yuh-Jung Youn, who shone at the Academy Awards this year, Korean films became world-class now.
