From May 24 to 25, the 28th Seowon University Blue Dragon Amateur College Basketball Tournament and KUSF Club Championship regional qualifiers were held at Seowon University Gymnasium. Our school basketball club DUNK won a valuable result by finishing in joint third place.

 

The tournament was organized by the Seowon University Basketball Research Society and brought together 12 college basketball clubs from the Daejeon and cheongdae Times Newspapercheong regions. This competition, which has continued for nearly 40 years, is recognized as a stage of tradition and prestige among local university basketball clubs.

 

The 12 teams were divided into four groups of three and played in a group league. The top two teams from each group advanced to the final tournament. The champion team received a trophy, prizes, and a spot in the KUSF Club Championship 2024 playoff. The runner-up and the two third-place teams also received trophies and prizes.

 

This year’s Blue Dragon Cup was more than wins and losses. It was a stage that tested tactics, cooperation, and teamwork. DUNK has rented the gym every week to continue training. The club focused on practicing both offense and defense. 

 

Jung Jae-hyun, president of DUNK and a student in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, said, “The most important thing in training is fun and harmony among teammates. I believe that improving individual skills is important, but understanding each other and creating the flow of the whole team is what leads to victory.”

From the group stage, DUNK showed an impressive performance. In the past, the team had never passed the qualifiers, so breaking through this time was a historic moment for the club. The cheers of the members who supported from the sidelines gave great strength to the players on the court. Every time they scored, the shouts of joy showed that DUNK is more than a sports club. It is a community.

 

DUNK advanced to the next round by beating Dankook University’s team Rainbow. The team celebrated with loud cheers.

In the semifinals, DUNK faced the strong Seowon University team and fought with great spirit. Although they narrowly missed advancing to the finals, the joint third-place finish was the best result in the club’s 40-year history.

 

After the tournament, President Jung could not hide his emotions.

“Our club DUNK was founded in 1984 and has a long tradition. We rent the gym every week for regular practice, and we value an enjoyable atmosphere the most. This time, 12 teams joined the tournament, and we proudly finished in joint third. Since we had never passed the qualifiers before, this result is the best in our history. I feel very happy.”

 

But he also offered a sober reflection.

“We felt a big gap between us and the winning team. We cannot be satisfied with the result alone. We need to improve individual skills and strengthen our team. We must keep working to reach a higher level.”

Jung explained that the team focused especially on defense while preparing for the tournament.

“In basketball, the flow is very important. We thought that bringing good energy from defense naturally leads to good offense. We repeated rotation defense drills so that players could quickly adjust positions during games. Thanks to this, we also got good results in the attack.”

This defensive strategy played a key role in DUNK’s stable performance. Quick steals and cooperative defense pressured opponents and boosted the team’s confidence in every match.

 

When asked about the most memorable moment, Jung answered without hesitation.

“It was the fact that all members got to play. Usually, in tournaments, younger players or non-starters cannot enter the game. But this time, every member stepped on the court. That experience made our teamwork stronger. The core of DUNK is basketball together.”

 

He also emphasized role division and personal training.

“We carefully managed not only attack and defense but also shooting, fitness, and mental strength. For new members, we gave them chances to overcome nervousness and to blend into the team. This was more than game skills. It became growth for the whole team.”

Founded in 1984, DUNK is a club with tradition and history. It is not only for sports activities but also a community where students bond across grades. The sight of freshmen and graduates playing together was impressive.

 

Jung also spoke about future plans.

“This November, DUNK will host our own tournament for college clubs in the cheongdae Times Newspapercheong region, the first time in six years. As the host, we want to achieve a good result. Based on the confidence we gained from the Blue Dragon Cup, we want to show more growth in front of our fellow students.”

 

DUNK’s achievement this year means more than third place. After decades of challenges and failures, they finally passed the qualifiers. By giving every member a chance to play, they also proved that everyone in the club is a main player.

 

For DUNK, this tournament became a turning point. The support of alumni, professors, staff, and managers made the success possible. Based on this experience, the club now aims to improve skills, build stamina, and train organized plays to win the November tournament. The solid defense and teamwork shown this time are the result of such preparation.

 

The next goal is to compete as a regional representative in the KUSF finals. Continued support and encouragement from students and alumni will provide a great strength for the players. The new challenges and achievements DUNK will display in November are highly anticipated. The power they displayed in the Blue Dragon Cup is not a temporary result. It is the starting point of future growth.

지난 5월 24일부터 25일까지 이틀간 서원대학교 체육관에서 열린 제28회 서원대학교 청룡배 아마추어 대학 동아리 농구대회 겸 KUSF 농구 클럽챔피언십 지역 예선에서 우리 학교 농구동아리 ‘DUNK’가 공동 3위를 차지하는 값진 성과를 거두었다. 이번 대회는 서원대학교 농구 연구회가 주관하며 대전·충청 지역의 대학 농구 동아리 12팀이 참가했다. 40년 가까이 이어져 온 이 대회는 지역 대학 농구 동아리들 사이에서 전통과 권위를 인정받는 무대이다. 참가팀들은 3개 팀씩 4개 조로 나뉘어 조별 리그를 치렀으며, 각 조 상위 1·2위 팀이 결선 토너먼트에 진출해 우승을 다투었다. 우승팀에게는 트로피와 시상품, 그리고 KUSF 클럽챔피언십 2024 최종예선 플레이오프 진출권이 주어졌다. 준우승 팀과 공동 3위 팀에게도 각각 트로피와 시상품이 수여됐다.

 

이번 청룡배 대회는 단순한 승패를 넘어 각 팀의 전술과 협력, 그리고 팀워크를 시험하는 장이었다. DUNK는 매주 꾸준히 체육관을 대관해 훈련을 이어오며, 공격과 수비를 조화롭게 연습하는 데 집중했다. DUNK 회장 광고홍보학과 22학번 정재현 학우는 “훈련에서 중요한 것은 즐거움과 동료 간의 호흡”이라며, “개인 기량 향상뿐만 아니라 서로를 이해하고 팀 전체의 흐름을 만드는 것이 승리로 이어진다고 믿는다”라고 강조했다.

DUNK는 이번 대회 조별 리그에서부터 인상적인 활약을 펼쳤다. 지난 몇 년간 꾸준히 출전했지만 한 번도 예선을 뚫지 못했던 팀이었기에, 이번 예선 돌파는 동아리 역사에 남을 중요한 순간이었다. 체육관 한쪽에서 열띤 응원을 이어가던 동아리 부원들의 함성은 코트를 누비는 선수들에게 큰 힘이 되었다. 선수들이 한 골 한 골 넣을 때마다 터져 나온 환호는 덩크가 단순한 스포츠 동아리를 넘어선 공동체임을 보여주는 장면이었다. 결국 조별 리그에서 안정적으로 상위권에 오른 DUNK는 단국대 농구팀 레인보우를 이기고 다음 경기에 진출하며 기쁨의 환호성을 터뜨렸다.

 

준결선에 오른 DUNK는 강호 서원대학교 농구팀과 맞대결을 펼치며 투혼을 불태웠다. 치열한 접전 끝에 결선 진출에는 아쉽게 실패했지만, 공동 3위라는 성적은 창립 40여 년의 역사에서 가장 높은 성적이었다.

대회 후 만난 회장 정재현 학우는 감격스러운 마음을 감추지 못했다.

“저희 농구동아리 덩크는 1984년에 창립된 전통 있는 동아리입니다. 매주 체육관을 대관해 꾸준히 연습을 이어가고 있고, 즐겁게 농구를 즐기는 분위기를 가장 중요하게 생각합니다. 이번 대회는 총 12개 팀이 참가한 규모 있는 대회였는데, 저희가 공동 3위를 기록했습니다. 사실 예선을 한 번도 통과하지 못했던 팀이었기에, 이번 결과는 역사상 가장 높은 성과라 정말 행복합니다.”

그는 동시에 냉정한 자기 평가도 잊지 않았다.

“우승 팀과의 수준 차이를 크게 느꼈습니다. 단순히 결과에 만족하기보다는, 개인적인 기량 향상과 팀 체급 보강이 필요하다는 것을 절실히 깨달았습니다. 앞으로 더 높은 단계로 성장하기 위해 계속 노력해야 합니다.”

정 회장은 이번 대회 준비 과정에서 특히 수비 전술에 중점을 두었다고 설명했다.

“농구에서는 흐름이 정말 중요합니다. 저희는 수비에서 좋은 에너지를 가져오는 것이 공격으로 자연스럽게 이어진다고 생각했습니다. 로테이션 수비 훈련을 반복하며, 경기 중에도 부원들이 서로 위치를 빠르게 조정할 수 있도록 준비했습니다. 이런 준비 덕분에 공격에서도 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있었던 것 같습니다.”

이러한 수비 전략은 덩크가 이번 대회에서 안정적인 경기력을 유지하는 데 핵심적인 역할을 했다. 빠른 스틸과 협력 수비로 상대를 압박하며 기세를 끌어올렸고, 이는 경기마다 자신감을 심어주었다.

 

이번 대회에서 가장 인상 깊었던 순간을 묻자 정 회장은 주저 없이 ‘모든 부원이 출전한 경험’을 꼽았다.

“보통 대회에서는 저학년이나 주전이 아닌 부원들이 경기에 출전하지 못하는 경우가 많습니다. 하지만 이번에는 모든 부원이 코트를 밟았고, 이 경험이 팀워크를 더욱 단단하게 만들었습니다. 덩크의 핵심은 바로 ‘함께하는 농구’입니다.”

 

또한 정 회장은 대회 준비 과정에서 부원 간 역할 분담과 개인 훈련의 중요성도 강조했다. “공격, 수비뿐 아니라 개인 슈팅, 체력, 정신력까지 세심하게 관리했습니다. 특히 신입 부원들에게는 경기 중 긴장을 이겨내는 법과 팀에 녹아드는 경험을 충분히 제공하려 노력했습니다. 이는 단순한 경기 기술 이상으로, 팀 전체의 성장으로 이어졌습니다.”

DUNK는 1984년 창립 이후 수많은 학생이 거쳐 간 전통의 동아리다. 단순한 스포츠 활동뿐만이 아닌 학우 간의 교류와 선후배 간 유대가 강한 공동체로 자리 잡아왔다. 특히 신입생부터 졸업생까지 함께 뛰는 장면은 인상적이었다.

 

정 회장은 앞으로의 계획에 대해 이렇게 밝혔다.

“올해 11월, 무려 6년 만에 덩크가 충청도 대학 동아리 팀들을 모집해 자체 대회를 개최합니다. 덩크가 주최하는 만큼 좋은 성적을 내고 싶습니다. 이번 청룡배 대회를 통해 얻은 자신감을 바탕으로 더 성장한 모습으로 학우들 앞에 서고 싶습니다.”

 

덩크의 이번 성과는 3위 이상의 의미가 있다. 수십 년간 이어온 역사 속에서 꾸준히 도전했지만 번번이 좌절했던 예선을 마침내 넘어섰다는 점, 그리고 모든 부원이 함께 뛰며 모두가 주인공인 팀임을 증명했다는 점에서 상징성이 크다.

 

끝으로 이번 대회는 DUNK에게 변곡점이 되었다. 학내외 동문과 교수진의 응원, 훈련을 도운 스태프와 매니저 등 물심양면으로 지원한 운영진 덕분에 가능한 성과였다. 덩크는 이번 경험을 바탕으로 기술적 보완과 체력 강화, 그리고 조직적인 경기 운영 훈련을 병행해 11월 주최 대회에서 우승을 노리겠다는 목표를 세웠다. 이번 대회에서 보여준 단단한 수비와 조직력은 이러한 준비의 결과이며, 다음 목표는 지역 대표로서 KUSF 본선에 도전할 수 있는 경쟁력을 갖추는 것이다. 학우들과 동문 여러분의 지속적인 관심과 응원은 선수들에게 큰 힘이 된다. 다가올 11월 대회에서 덩크가 보여줄 새로운 도전과 성취가 더 기대된다. 이번 청룡배 대회에서 보여준 저력은 결코 일시적인 성과가 아니라, 앞으로도 이어질 발전의 출발점임을 믿어 의심치 않는다.
