As the new semester begins, I would like to introduce the dining options at our school, a topic that freshmen are most curious about and is essential to the college experience. Nowadays, campus dining has evolved beyond mere meals to become an integral part of 'school culture.' Cheongju University offers a total of four dining locations: a student cafeteria, a business college cafeteria, a main faculty cafeteria, and a dormitory cafeteria. To use the meal service, you must purchase a meal ticket directly, and all four locations accept credit card payments.

The dining facilities currently in operation at Cheongju University each have unique characteristics based on their location, operating hours, and menu offerings.

The student cafeteria located in Building 38, across from the sports complex, operates from 11 AM to 4 PM, offering the longest lunch hours. A key feature is the option to choose between Korean and Western cuisine, with all menu items uniformly priced at 4,500 won. The next location is the Business College Restaurant. It is situated on the fourth floor of the building located between Buildings 9 and 10, near the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The restaurant operates from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The price of meals is also 4,500 won, and the menu primarily consists of Korean cuisine.

The third facility is the faculty cafeteria, located on the first floor of the main building, Cheongseokgwan (Building 5). It operates from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The price is the highest at 6,000 won; however, it stands out in terms of quality as it offers a variety of Korean dishes along with self-service desserts.

Lastly, the dormitory restaurant is located next to the Yejiwon dormitory building. It primarily serves dormitory residents but is also open to all students. Notably, it offers three meals a day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is served from 8 am to 9:30 am, lunch from 12 pm to 1:30 pm, and dinner from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. The price is 4,500 won, which is good compared to other restaurants, and a variety of menu choices stand out.

Additionally, our university operates the '1,000 Won Breakfast' program. Cheongju University has been selected for the '1,000 Won Breakfast' initiative supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, providing breakfast to students for just 1,000 won. The 1,000 won breakfast program will be held at the faculty cafeteria in the main building. It will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, three times a week during the semester, from March 11 to June 19, 2025. Please note that availability is limited to 45 people per day, and access will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The university cafeteria serves hundreds of students each day. So, what do the students really think about the food? I conducted interviews to hear their opinions firsthand.

Many students expressed the highest level of satisfaction with the affordable pricing. Kim OO, a student majoring in Aviation Service from the class of 2023, expressed a positive evaluation, noting that one of the significant advantages is the ability to enjoy Western cuisine at this price in the student cafeteria. Meanwhile, Yoo OO, a student from the Department of Library and Information Science, class of 2024, expressed that the kindness of the cafeteria staff was what he found most satisfying. However, the assessment of the school cafeteria was not solely positive. Alongside expressions of satisfaction, there were also voices highlighting areas of regret and the need for improvement.

A student from the Department of Police Administration, class of 2024, CheonOO, expressed a desire for the regular payment system for dormitory meals to be changed to a per-use basis. Park OO, a student from the Class of 2025 majoring in Advertising and Public Relations, expressed a desire for a more diverse menu. Furthermore, YooOO, a student from the Department of Library and Information Science, class of 2024, expressed the opinion that desserts should be offered not only at the faculty cafeteria in the main building but also at other dining facilities.

In a recent survey assessing academic satisfaction among our school students on a scale of 1 to 10, the lowest score recorded was 4, while the highest score reached 7, resulting in an overall average of 5.4.

School meals continue to be regarded as a cost-effective option for many students. However, to bridge the gap between satisfaction and dissatisfaction, the school must make ongoing efforts to improve. I hope that meals will not be merely sustenance, but rather a source of strength that helps you get through the day. Furthermore, we hope that the voices of students will be taken into account, leading to the establishment of a better school cafeteria culture.

청주대학교 학식 소개와 학생들의 목소리

새 학기 들어오면 신입생들이 가장 궁금해하고 대학교에서 빼놓을 수 없는 주제인 저희 학교 학식에 대해 소개합니다. 요즘 학식은 단순한 식사를 넘어 ‘학교 문화’의 일부로 자리 잡고 있습니다. 청주대학교 학식 장소는 학생식당, 비즈니스대학 식당, 본관 교직원식당, 기숙사 식당 이렇게 총 4곳이 있습니다. 학식 이용은 직접 식권을 구매하여 이용해야 하며, 4곳 모두 카드결제 가능합니다.

현재 운영 중인 청주대학교의 학식 장소 각각의 위치와 운영 시간, 식단 구성에 따라 다양한 특징을 가지고 있습니다.

먼저, 종합운동장 맞은편 38동 건물에 위치한 학생식당은 오전 11시부터 오후 4시까지 운영되어 가장 긴 점심시간을 제공합니다. 한식과 양식 중 원하는 메뉴를 선택해 먹을 수 있는 점이 가장 큰 특징이며, 가격은 모두 4,500원으로 동일합니다.

다음은 경상대학식당입니다. 이곳은 경상대학 9동과 10동 사이 건물의 4층에 위치해 있으며, 운영 시간은 오전 11시 30분부터 오후 1시까지 운영합니다. 학식 가격은 마찬가지로 4,500원이며, 식단은 주로 한식 위주로 구성되어 있습니다.

세 번째는 교직원 식당입니다. 본관 청석관 지하 1층에 위치하고 있으며, 오전 11시 30분부터 오후 1시 30분까지 운영됩니다. 가격은 6,000원으로 가장 높지만, 다양한 한식 메뉴와 함께 자율 후식이 제공되어 퀄리티 면에서 차별화된 모습을 보입니다.

마지막으로 기숙사 식당은 예지관 기숙사 건물 옆에 위치하고 있습니다. 기숙사생을 위한 식당이지만 일반 학생들도 이용할 수 있으며, 아침·점심·저녁 총 세 끼 식사가 제공된다는 점이 특징입니다. 조식은 오전 8시부터 9시 30분까지, 중식은 12시부터 오후 1시 30분까지, 석식은 오후 5시 30분부터 7시까지 운영됩니다. 가격은 다른 식당과 동일한 4,500원이며, 다양한 메뉴 구성이 장점입니다.

또한, 저희 학교는 ‘천원의 아침밥’을 운영합니다. 농림축산식품부에서 지원하는 ‘천원의 아침밥’ 사업에 청주대학교가 선정되어 학생들에게 천원으로 아침밥을 지원합니다. 천원의 아침밥 학식 장소는 본관 교직원식당이며 2025년 3월 11일부터 6월 19일까지 학기 중 주 3회인 화, 수, 목요일에 아침 8시 30분부터 9시 30분까지 운영합니다. 유의사항은 1일 45명 한정으로 제공하기 때문에 선착순으로 이용 가능합니다.

하루에도 수백 명의 학생이 이용하는 대학 식당입니다. 그렇다면, 정작 학생들은 학식에 대해 어떻게 생각하고 있을까요? 제가 인터뷰하여 직접 학생들의 목소리를 들어봤습니다.

많은 학생들이 가장 만족스러워한 점은 부담 없는 가격입니다. 의료경영학과 24학번 장한솔 학생은 특히 학생식당의 양식메뉴는 이 가격으로 먹을 수 있다는 점이 큰 장점으로 생각한다는 좋은 평가가 있었습니다. 이와 함께, 문헌정보학과 24학번 유담희 학생은 학식 아주머니들이 친절하다는 점이 가장 만족스러웠다고 합니다.

그러나 학식에 대해 긍정적인 평가만 있는 것은 아니었습니다. 만족스러운 점이 있는 만큼, 아쉬움과 개선해야 할 점을 토로하는 목소리도 존재했습니다.

경찰행정학과 24학번 천소희 학생은 기숙사 학식 정기결제권을 횟수제로 변경되길 바라는 의견이 있었습니다. 그리고 광고홍보학과 25학번 윤경빈 학생은 메뉴의 다양성이 풍부해졌으면 좋겠다는 의견이 있었습니다. 나아가, 문헌정보학과 24학번 유담희 학생은본관 교직원식당 뿐만 아니라 다른 식당에도 후식이 제공되었으면 하는 의견이 있었습니다.

학식은 여전히 많은 학생들에게 ‘가성비 좋은 한 끼’로 자리 잡고 있습니다. 다만, 만족과 불만 사이의 격차를 줄이기 위해서는 학교가 지속적으로 개선하려는 노력이 필요합니다. 학식이 단순한 식사가 아닌 ‘하루를 버티게 해주는 힘’이 되길 바랍니다. 또한, 학생들의 목소리가 반영되어 더 나은 학식 문화가 만들어지길 기대합니다.
